12 More Days of NaNoWriMo

Reactions:
The good news is I have over 19,000 words for my novel that I didn't have before November started. The bad news is, to be current in NaNoWriMo, I should have 30,000 today. So, that puts me about 40 pages behind and I have 12 more days of November. How did I do this to myself? According to NaNoWriMo's doohicky, if I write 2,350 words for the next 12 days, I will finish on time; that's almost 10 pages a day.

Several things seem to be going on.

  1. I've been writing a lot every day for the past 18 days. It's hard to come up with that much to say on the daily.

  2. Between the 30,000 I already wrote for Camp NaNoWriMo on this project and what I have now, I'm actually at a point where I think what I have left to write is elaborating on and clarifying the things that have already happened. (Adding transitions, scene/sequel, etc.) Unfortunately, that's really editing. So at this point, I'm kind of forcing myself to find things to add.

  3. My personal life is distracting me. Enough said. Okay, not quite enough: it's chaos out there.

  4. For the first time ever, I am having a food coma in anticipation of eating all that turkey.

  5. Writing is fun, but it's amazing how compelling random things become after all those days of writing like crazy. I catch myself just sitting on the bed or the couch contemplating Life's Big Questions: what's the point of all of this? Is there life after death? Did the dog fart or is that me? Who's texting me? Who's TEXTING me? Seriously, what area code is that?

  6. It's so easy to find reasons not to write: I have wrist pain. I should be sleeping. I need a shower. Now that I've showered, I need to apply makeup even though I'm not seeing anyone I care about. I have paperwork to fill out. I need to go to the DMV. . . Oh, in that case, I need to write.
