Day 8 of NaNoWriMo Already

02.19.10Time flies when you're having fun; it also flies when you're not having all that much fun. It flies when you're just really freakin' busy and can't get to that shitty rough draft in the making. Either that, or by the time you can sit down to write without a child, spouse, or pet begging for attention, you're too tired to deal with the needs of people who don't even exist outside of your head.

Characters are high maintenance. Have you noticed that? I mean, as a writer, you do all this stuff for them, and then, they have the nerve to go off and do whatever. What's with that? They're worse than children. Let's face it: we can hope good characters turn our books into bestsellers that will take care of us when we're old, but real children can be guilt-tripped into taking care of us in our golden years. Human frailty is much more reliable than the marketplace. Funny how that works.

Oh well, I guess as long as they're off doing their own thing, I can document what I see while I'm on the ride.

"I'd write a book if the boogers would fall out on their own."
To those of you who are sweating it out in NaNoWriMo 2011, good for you! At least you're not part of that really annoying crowd that says, "Oh, you're writing a book? Wow. You know, I'd love to do that, but I just don't have the time."
